Our Roots
In January 2005, a core group of twelve professional Latino women gathered to explore the possibility of creating an organization that would provide encouragement and support to the rest of the Latinas in the state of Washington.
"Mujeres of the NW" was the result of their shared vision, one of creating a safe forum in which to give voice to the Latino/Hispanic/Indigenous American women of our state. Today, "Mujeres of the NW" come together to network for our not-for-profit projects and to share our stories. Keeping ties to our homelands, we foster a circle of trust in which to grow individually and professionally.
Most importantly, we come together to learn from each other and to have fun!
Our Mission
The purpose of "Mujeres of the NW" is to unite so that our voices can be heard in all communities of the State of Washington above all frontiers. We are non-partisan and unaffiliated with any political or religious entity. We come together to provide support, leadership, and mentorship to one another so our voices can be heard for the improvement of our community.
We do this by:
Providing Forums for Networking
Congregating Social and Intellectual Capital
Celebrating Our Accomplishments and Contributions
Creating a Safe Haven to Cherish Our "Latinismo"
Our Members
We are professional and businesswomen, graduate students, retirees, young mothers and grandmothers. We are equally diverse in our roots, having been born in various countries in Latin America and Spain, as well as the U.S. We are particularly interested in supporting each other's volunteer work that benefits the Latino community and the community at large.
